Mayor Tunç Soyer said, "We can use everything in the cycle of nature in a sustainable and even restorative way. Unfortunately, in our country, which has an extremely high mining potential, we see that the reputation of this sector has been damaged in recent years due to wrong practices. However, we do not have an inch of forest to lose, nor an economy to be abandoned to its fate."
Hosted by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and organized by İZFAŞ, MINEX - 10th Mining, Natural Resources and Technologies Expo and IMMAT 9th International Mining Machinery and Technologies Congress started. The opening ceremony of MINEX, which will be held on September 13-16, and IMMAT, which will take place between September 13-15, was attended by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP Deputy Chairman Ahmet Akın, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Assembly President Selami Özpoyraz, Aegean Region Chamber of Industry Vice Chairman Hakan Ürün, TMMOB Chamber of Mining Engineers Chairman Ayhan Yüksek, İZFAŞ General Manager Canan Karaosmanoğlu Alıcı, district mayors, political party representatives and industry professionals.
Soyer: "It has grown more than five times"
Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer said, "MINEX has grown more than five times compared to the first year it was organized and continues to strengthen our country's position in the mining sector, develop exports, employment and the national economy. This year at MINEX, a total of 173 international exhibitors from different countries of the world such as Germany, China, Poland, the United States of America, Australia, India, the United Arab Emirates and 116 exhibitors from different parts of Türkiye are coming together in İzmir. In parallel with MINEX, we are hosting the IMMAT 9th International Mining Machinery and Technologies Congress organized by the İzmir Branch of the Chamber of Mining Engineers of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects on the first and second days of our expo."
"We have to build a new mining economy based on branding"
Stating that the mining sector is not given the importance it needs, President Soyer said, "For us, there is much more than a similarity of sound between economy and ecology. If there is no ecology, there is no economic development, no welfare, no life. However, today, the use of underground resources almost means 'occupation of nature'. We have to put an immediate stop to this. We can use everything in nature's cycle in a sustainable and even restorative way. It is a pity that in our country, which has an extremely high mining potential, we see that the reputation of this sector has been damaged in recent years due to wrong practices. However, we do not have an inch of forest to lose, nor an economy to be abandoned to its fate. The key to solving this problem in our country is to overcome our bad luck of selling cheap raw materials. Instead, we have to build a new mining economy based on added value and branding, where raw materials are blended with knowledge. Because we have no choice but to keep this homeland alive. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the TMMOB Chamber of Mining Engineers for making it possible to organize the MINEX Expo, which is an important milestone in achieving these goals, and to my valuable colleagues at İZFAŞ, our municipal company."
Mayor Tunç Soyer also met Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör, who came to the expo for a conference, and chatted with him for a while.
Akın "It has become traditional"
Stating that mining should be encouraged by the state, CHP Deputy Chairman Ahmet Akın said, "It has become a traditional event in our country where science and industry come together in the field of mining. I would like to thank everyone who contributed." Selami Özpoyraz, Chairman of the Assembly of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Hakan Ürün, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry, and Ayhan Yüksek, Chairman of the Chamber of Mining Engineers of TMMOB, stated that MINEX Expo and IMMAT Congress are very important for the sector.
More than 300 exhibitors
The 10th MINEX "Mining, Natural Resources and Technologies Expo" will be held in Halls A and B of Expo İzmir on September 13-16 in cooperation with TMMOB "Chamber of Mining Engineers of Türkiye". Minex aims to strengthen Türkiye's position in the mining sector and contribute to exports, employment and the national economy. The expo opens its doors to visitors with more than 300 exhibitors with a wide range of product groups such as mining machinery and equipment, drilling machinery and equipment, ore dressing and beneficiation machinery and equipment, industrial raw materials. The expo is expected to be visited by more than 10 thousand local and foreign visitors.
The 9th International Mining Machinery and Technologies Congress (IMMAT), organized by TMMOB Chamber of Mining Engineers İzmir Branch, will be held in İzmir simultaneously with MINEX 2023 Mining, Natural Resources and Technologies Expo between 13-15 September. The 9th International Mining Machinery and Technologies Congress (IMMAT 2023), the first of which was organized in 2007, managed to gain an international identity in 2017.
